Cherokee Boulevard is a busy urban arterial that connects the communities north of Chattanooga to the urban core. The goal for the Cherokee Boulevard Design Challenge was to enhance the urban arterial and encourage mixed use redevelopment through green infrastructure and complete streets solutions.

Through the design process, the design team observed that the character of Cherokee Boulevard changed dramatically from one end to the other.  The idea was to implement low impact development (LID) strategies that would acknowledge the three unique character zones along Cherokee Boulevard, while also revealing the three natural processes for re-introducing water into the natural environment- transpiration, evaporation, and infiltration.

The Farmer | Morgan design team won 2nd place at the Chattanooga Design Challenge for this innovative design integrating LID practices with sound urban design principles along this major thoroughfare for the city.
