Glendale Elementary School Green Parking Plan is a Spanish-immersion school for grades K-5 in Oak Hill neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee. Farmer | Morgan worked with the school and neighborhood to design and implement a parking lot addition in the rear of the campus. In addition to gaining 30 new parking spaces, the project was able to add five bioretention rain gardens to capture and filter the first flush of rain on the site. These bioretention rain gardens were able to provide drainage capacity in excess of 124% of the required drainage for the area. The parking lot was designed so that each drainage area will fill to capacity before overflowing into the next bioretention area downhill. This project also included two connector sidewalks and a wooden pedestrian bridge to provide access into the school building, as well as additional sidewalks adjacent to street to allow students to safely walk from the adjacent neighborhood. Eight trees and over 75 native grasses and shrubs were installed to assist in the cleaning and infiltration of the first flush of stormwater on the site.
