Marion County, AL
Size:
16,368 linear feet
Type:
Drinking Water Line Extension
Year:
2019
Budget:
$450,000
The primary purpose of the Marion County Water for Agriculture Project is to provide vital public water service to the county’s poultry growers to support the region’s and the state’s top agricultural commodity. The proposed project includes the installation of 16,368 linear feet of 6” Class 250 PVC water line along Marion County Highways 11, 435, and 94 to support the area’s vital poultry industry. The proposed water line extension will provide water service to seven (7) poultry houses with failing and/or inadequate water supplies. This area is situated on an aquifer that does not provide an adequate supply of water needed to properly service the number of poultry houses drawing from the source. The quantity of water in the area is insufficient during periods of extreme drought and the quality is also problematic due to the intrusion of sand, silt and minerals into the current pumping system. Filtration systems must be installed and maintained to provide water that is acceptable to the poultry supplier. An adequate water supply is needed to retain these poultry growers and their employees and for any possibility of future expansion. This project will also provide potable water to citizens in the area who are in need of public water service.
